Dancing in the Presence of God

Preacher:
Passage: 2 Samuel 6:1-23

David desperately wanted the ark of the covenant to be in the city of Jerusalem. The ark represented the reality of God's presence, and David desperately desired to live in the tangible reality of God's presence. But, there was a problem. As they tried to move the ark, Uzzah, one of the people guiding the cart carrying the ark, died trying to stop the ark from falling. Even though the ark pointed to God's holiness and our sinfulness, and to the chasm between God and us, its atonement seat also pointed to the atoning work of Christ on the cross. It is through the blood of Jesus that we come to a tangible reality of God's presence in our lives. When we come to see God's holiness, our sinfulness, and God's atoning work on the cross, we can't help but to be humble and joyful and dance like David danced.
