Dead Inside
- Today, we are studying the message of Jesus to the church in Sardis.
There was no word of commendation for this church. Jesus gave the harshest word to this church: “you have a reputation for being alive, but you are dead.”What does that mean? (1) They were living off the glory of the past instead of in the present. (2) They were inauthentic and hypocritical, which led to spiritual death. (3) They were no longer living out their mission.Jesus told them to wake up! How do we wake up from deep slumber? He told them to “remember what you have received and heard.” We have heard the gospel and received the Holy Spirit. He is telling us to hold on to the gospel truth—to not just become a Christian but also to live as a Christian. We are sinners living in God’s grace. Also, he is telling us to cherish the received Holy Spirit.
