The Glory of Oneness

Preacher:
Passage: John 17:1-26
  1. In John chapter 17, Jesus prays for his disciples to be one with each other as he is one with the Father. This oneness with God and one another is God’s original intent for the world. But the world has gone wrong because sin has broken oneness. The world reflect this broken oneness in many horrific ways. Violence, exploitation, and racism are just a few examples. God’s rescue plan is the Kingdom of God which breaks into the world in and the through Jesus Christ. When you and I are united with Jesus by grace through faith, we become citizens in God’s Kingdom. Our Kingdom identity relativizes all of our other identities and unites us with our sisters and brothers in the diverse body of Christ. When Jesus’s prayer is realized and we are united in oneness, the world will know the truth that Jesus is God’s Word sent into the world by the Father. Therefore, we need cultural agility to successfully live out our Kingdom citizenship and share in Jesus’s glory as we become one with each other and God.
