Work to Serve the City

Passage: Jeremiah 29:4-10

There are some wrong ways to approach work. Some say it is not important because it is not “spiritual” enough. Some make their work as a way to find personal success, significance and approval.

The right way to approach our work is to approach it as a way to serve the city. When Israelites were exiled in Babylon, God called them to seek the peace and prosperity of the city. That is also God’s call for us now. This is a way to love our neighbor. This is a way to become God’s hands and feet in this city.

Where do we get the power to do this? It is only when we know that we are saved, approved, loved, and accepted by God through grace--what Jesus has done for us--that we have the power to stop trying to save ourselves through our work and be free to serve the city through our work.
