Emotionally Healthy Relationships Course

Fall 2022

You are invited to participate in a deeply transformative discipleship course called Emotionally Healthy Relationships on Sundays from September 25th to December 4, 2022 (with 10/16 and 11/27)! We are piloting this course with the goal of making it a central offering in New City Church’s spiritual formation plan. This course is a concrete answer to: “How do I grow as a Christian in this church?”

What is Emotionally Healthy Relationships and why should I join?

We who believe the gospel, regularly attend church, are devoted to small groups, and are growing spiritually still need to develop the practical, day-by-day skills to love our neighbors, families, and friends better. See, even people of faith with a vibrant church life can continue relational patterns that break togetherness vs. build togetherness: we often do not resolve conflict in healthy ways, speak assertively, or communicate our needs with the people we love most. Have you noticed this in your life?

The Emotionally Healthy Relationships course is an 8-week course designed to help disciple us in our relational life, that we might experience healing and development in our relationships with family members, parents, spouses, significant others, coworkers, and friends. In the dual commandment Jesus gave us in Matthew, this course is designed to help us authentically “love our neighbor as ourselves.”

The EHR course will help us dig beneath the surface in our relationship with God, ourselves, and our communities of origin. It will help us develop rhythms to deepen our life with God, safely explore our woundings in community, and give us the tools and concepts to sustain these areas of growth. During the course, we will see how it is not possible to be spiritually mature while remaining emotionally and relationally immature. As 1 John says, we know we love God if we have love for others.

Emotionally Healthy Relationships is part 2 of a 2-part course called Emotionally Healthy Discipleship. We regularly run the first part of the course, called Emotionally Healthy Spirituality, in the Spring.

Can I sign up for the EHR course without having taken the EHS course?

YES, you can sign up for EHR without having taken the EHS Course! Emotionally Healthy Relationships (EHR) is the second part of a 2-part course; the first part is called Emotionally Healthy Spirituality (EHS), which we offer in the Spring. You can sign up for EHR without having taken EHS — we just ask that you sign up for EHS in the following Spring!
