The Wisdom to be Lifted from Laziness

Preacher:
Passage: Various Passages

The Proverbs are filled with passages that chastise laziness as a sign of lacking wisdom so we have to take laziness seriously. When we look closely at different forms of laziness like procrastination, not finishing things that we start, rationalizing our lack of desire to work, or even sleeping through many of life’s precious opportunities, we actually find that laziness is often driven by pride, idols of approval and control, and an overall lack of trust in God’s grace. While laziness is something that every believer should take seriously, we also have to keep our eyes open for systems of oppression that rob people of their hope that working hard will actually make a difference in their lives. Our hope to overcome the causes of laziness and to change systems of oppression that perpetuate hopelessness only comes through the amazing gift of God’s love through Jesus Christ. He enables us to work hard without a fear of failure and without finding our worth and value in our work. In Christ we have peace.
