A Profound Mystery

Preacher:
Series:
Passage: Ephesians 5:21-33

When Paul says in verse 32, “This is a profound mystery,” he is not saying that it is something we don’t understand. He is saying that it is something that was not revealed in the past, but has now been revealed. That God somehow revealed to us a profound mystery. What is this mystery that Paul is talking about? Is he saying that the marriage is a mystery? Some of you might go to bed after “a hard day of marriage,” and as you fall asleep, the only thing you remember about this passage about marriage is: “This is a profound mystery.” But, Paul says that this profound mystery is not about marriage, but about the relationship between the church and Christ. But, what about it is mysterious? Why is it so profound? What was that which was revealed that makes this such a profound mystery? As he is writing about marriage, something blows him out of the water, and he has to take a step back, and say, this is a profound mystery! Let’s look to see what he meant.
