When Peter preached his first sermon, people were cut to the heart and asked, "What shall we do?" What caused this cutting of the heart? First, it was the truth about Jesus--the truth of his life, death, resurrection, and ascension. It was NOT some sort of spiritual philosphy that caused the cut; it was the historic fact and truth of Jesus that caused the cut. When we are cut to the heart, we are called to respond by repentance and baptism. Then, God WILL give us the gift of the Holy Spirit!
