To prepare for this series, I read through 1 and 2 Samuel, the entire story of David again. It’s got a lot of stories of war, violence, betrayal, killing, and in many situations; it wasn’t very clear what the moral of the story was. If you look at the Bible as a collection of moral fables—like Aesop’s Fables, you could end up all over the place. And today’s story is one of the most famous stories in the Bible, the story of the battle between David and Goliath. And we are not going to read this just a moral fable, but as a foreshadowing of what Jesus did. So, it will be different than the way you might have heard it before.
