There is a split among liberal and conservative churches: liberal churches tend focus on social justice and conservative churches tend to focus on personal piety. The gospel—the good news that Jesus came, died for us, and is coming back—focuses on both. The gospel calls us to overcome racism and come together and love one another in community, to fight against injustice with the power of self sacrificial love and grace, to care for the environment, to help and empower the poor, to reduce suffering, and to engage in reduction of personal and systematic oppression.
