How Jesus Interpreted the Bible

Preacher:
Passage: Luke 5:27-6:11

Jesus called Matthew, a tax collector (who was considered a social outcast, cheater, and traitor), to follow him and then went to his house for a big party with Matthew’s friends who were also social outcasts because of their lifestyles.  While he was there, the religious leaders questioned him for hanging out with sinners. Then, they asked him why his disciples didn’t fast and pray like the other pious Jews.  In response, Jesus told them that there is no fasting when the bridegroom is at a wedding party.   In addition, he told them two parables: one about old unshrunk cloth being incompatible with new cloth and old wineskin being incompatible with new wine.  What do these stories tell us about the heart of the clash between the teachers of the law and Jesus?  It tells us how Jesus interpreted the Bible.
