Meeting Jesus in Our Darkness

Preacher:
Passage: John 5:1-15

The story of the man who had been ill for 38 long years speaks to Jesus’ care not just for our physical well-being but even more so for the well-being of our soul. In the first coming of the Son of God into the world, we receive foretastes of his healing power. Full healing of all his people and all their diseases and disabilities and circumstances awaits the second coming. The goal of the foretastes we receive now is to call us to faith and holiness.
The difficult circumstances and illnesses we now may face give us an opportunity to grow in Christ, as we seek to meet him in the darkness. Walking in the dark is not something to avoid, as it allows the works of God to be displayed in us. Walking in the dark takes practice but if we press into Jesus during these times we will find its redemptive value, for darkness is not dark to God. God has done some of his best work in the dark, and out of the dark.
