God created the world, and he came down in the person of Jesus Christ. John 1:10 says that although the world was created by him, it did not receive him. The world was hostile towards him. Yet, he gave himself for us, died for us, sacrificed himself for us. He didn’t come to the city, he didn’t come to Jerusalem to make a name for himself. He didn’t come to the city to condemn the city. He didn’t come to city to create a fortress against all of the evils of the city. He didn’t come to the city to use the city for his own purpose. He came to the city to give himself to bring Shalom of God into the city, and into the heart of everyone.
