Jesus and John gave us the key to understanding the Bible. This is at the foundation of our faith. If we don’t get this, we will miss everything else, because we will not be able to properly understand the Bible. The key is that the Bible points to Jesus and life in Jesus. This sounds simple but we get this wrong all the time. What does this mean practically? It means that (1) we read the Bible as a story of salvation in Jesus, not moralistic lessons; and (2) we read the Bible as a revelation of the God who looks like Jesus. So, this has a tremendous impact on the way we see what God is like and what Christianity is all about.
