The Spiritual Disciplines are the Process for Growth
Two weeks ago, we talked about the reality that living by the law does not work. We can try and try but we will end up failing. Our willpower is not strong enough to bear the fruit of the Spirit. Our willpower is not going to get us to self-sacrificially love, to rejoice in all circumstances, to experience peace in the midst of turmoil, to be patient when we feel our blood boiling, to be kind to unkind people, to be good in bad situations, to be faithful when tempted, and to be self-controlled when we feel out of control. Remember, the law is like the flashlight that tells us what’s wrong, but you can’t fix the problem with the flashlight. We can’t change ourselves by shear will power.
