This chapter is arguably the most important chapter in the entire book of Revelation. There was and is so much persecution, idolatry, violence, and injustice going on in the world. We all want God to make things right and bring his Kingdom to its fullness now.

John is led to the vision of the throne of God in heaven. God is holding the scroll with seven seals, which contains his plan for making things right and bringing the Kingdom of God to its fulfillment.

However, no one is found to be worthy to open the seals and bring the heavenly Kingdom down to earth. And so, John weeps and weeps. Then, he is told that the Messiah, the Lion of Judah, has triumphed and is able to open the scroll and make things right and bring heaven down to earth. Everyone is expecting a Lion, a symbol of dominance and power, but it is a little slain Lamb that is revealed. John hears a Lion, but sees a Lamb. The Lamb is the one standing at the center of the throne of God. This is the ultimate plot twist, not only in the Book of Revelation, but also in the entire story of the Bible and the history of creation. This plot twist is the key to everything.

This plot twist of the Lamb teaches us that the Jesus was the Lamb who died for our sins. The cross, the sacrificial death of Jesus, is at the heart of everything. This means that the way God brings the kingdom of heaven to earth is through sacrificial love. It is not through violence, coercion, or brute force, the power of the Lion. It is through the power of sacrificial love, the power of the Lamb.

To the little Lamb, the entire universe falls down to worship.
