An Invitation to Something Greater than Ourselves
This is the story of Simon Peter’s call. When Jesus finished speaking from a boat, he said to Simon to go out to the deep water and let down the nets for a catch. Peter, who is a professional fisherman, could have dismissed what Jesus said, but he obeyed and caught two boat loads of fish. In response, Simon Peter fell down before Jesus and said, “Go away from me. I am a sinful man.” He knew he was in the presence of someone holy, someone beyond himself. Jesus then calls Simon to become fishers of people, calling him to something greater than himself. The call to Simon is our call as well.
